How Things Started For Me

Back in 1976, my Dad and I were looking for a way to earn a living. We were short on funds and long on hope. Quite by accident, we saw our first computer portrait system in a storefront on Broadway in New York City. There was a crowd of people waiting to have their portrait printed in very crude computer symbols on a piece of white paper. They were actually waiting in line to pay $3.00 for a 10¢ piece of paper.

Two exciting thoughts ran through our minds. First: This was just like a Polaroid. Only instead of a camera, it used a computer. Millions had been made with Polaroid and here was the same basic idea, done another way. The second thought was that just once, we wanted the chance to be in the right place at the right time and get in on the ground floor.
